Boston Mayor Michelle Wu and her husband Conor Pewarski welcomed a healthy baby girl on Monday.

In a statement Tuesday, a spokesperson for the City of Boston said, “Yesterday at 2pm, Mayor Wu and her husband Conor welcomed Baby Mira Wu Pewarski—arriving at 8lbs, 4oz and 20 inches—to their family and to Boston. Mom and baby are in good health, and the Mayor is in touch with her senior staff.”

The timing of the joyful moment comes as the mayor herself celebrates her birthday on Tuesday.

“We are so blessed to have welcomed Baby Mira into our family and into the world yesterday,” Wu's husband said in an email distributed by the Wu campaign. “Just in time for Michelle’s birthday today!”

The City Hall statement continued, “Mayor Wu wishes to express her deepest gratitude to the nurses, doctors, and healthcare staff who made this possible for her family and who work everyday to support so many families across the city.”

Wu’s office did circulate a schedule for today. There were no public events listed.

Wu, 39, announced her pregnancy in July and reaffirmed her decision to seek reelection in 2025 last fall, saying she plans to formally announce after her baby was born.

Last month, preparing for Mira's arrival, Wu changed scheduling of the annual State of the City address. That speech, typically delivered during the first or second week of January, will now take place in March, according to Wu's office, though a specific date has not been set yet.

Wu has said she does not plan to take a formal maternity leave.

The mayor has pointed to her ability to juggle motherhood and public service. She became the first city councilor to give birth while serving in office, when she had her first child, Blaise, during her first term in December 2014. Wu gave birth to her second child, Cass, in July 2017 when she was president of the City Council.

Wu also said last month that she’s “grateful” to City Council President Ruthzee Louijeune who is slated to represent the mayor during appearances at public events in the early goings after the baby arrives.
